Some of my acquaintances still sometimes recall their impressions of my old oil paintings of clouds

and ramble on and on. By definition, “un-un” (云云) means rambling or talking about something.

Perhaps this word is derived from the image of a talking person letting out a cloud of breath,

considering it is a homophone with the word “un-un” (雲雲), which means clouds! I believe

the word “un” (雲), which uses the 雨 (“rain”) and 云 (“ramble”) components, best describes

my journey from clouds to the mind. My recent series, titled A Walk Through the Mind, expresses

the spectrum of my mind through blank canvases,

which resemble the airy spaces of the sky left vacant after the clouds passed.

Whenever I attempt an experiment in my art, I ramble through the clouded essence of art

and the painterly truth. Meanwhile, my mind rambles on, wandering through the states of commitment

and detachment. This process is transformative, producing variations in the air of a blank canvas.

In front of a canvas that I’m destined to finish, I try to set my mind free to ramble through

an ecologically changing environment with my eyes closed. The more I cover and erase the painting,

the more obvious its colors and texture become. I believe

reading between the lines of colors and textures will show you an unspeakable world.
